Elvis Presley's 30th Death Anniversary

I never noticed it at all—Elvis Presley being dead for 30 years already. And who would’ve? Although considered the King of Rock 'n' Roll, the whole planet is busy with a lot of other stuff, which I am glad I won’t be mentioning.

Okay, so why is Elvis Presley still the reigning king of Rock 'n' Roll?

A phenomenon during the fifties 'till the early seventies, Elvis Presley was unopposed when it was about Rock 'n' Roll, but when the seventies came all who wanted to watch "The King" were either already too old or too embarrassed to attend his Vegas gigs, and some other excuses/reasons. Although it did not stop there (his music), because when kids who were born in the seventies grew up, those records of Elvis their folks still played somewhat made an influence still.

There are other reasons why Elvis still lives. (By the way scramble the Elvis word and you come up with “Lives”; as well as “Levi’s”). One is that after Elvis, no one dared challenge the title—except for the Beatles, but they were a group—and because after Elvis Rock 'n' Roll was already dead. Don McLean's "American Pie" song said that when Buddy Holly died in that plane crash, the music (Rock 'n' Roll) died.

Be that however, one way or the other, we must admit that Elvis left us with good music, that’s why he’s still famous, and still makes a lot of money years after his death.

They say that the songs Elvis made was largely the influence of Southern Soul and Rhythm and Blues tunes of the Negroes in the fifties. (or forties). If memory serves me correct, Elvis was once a choir member of this Negro church where he grew up. Either that memory is wrong or that he used to visit churches where he listened to their music. Anyway, there’s something about black rhythm and blues music that lingers on until today that we love; while the politically correct term for their race now is “colored.”

I listened to Elvis when I was in high school—the only one in school I guess—and I still find time to listen to them, most of the time though I just imagine his songs and sing them quietly in my mind. More so when intoxicated.

Time flies.
